According to Jeri Vogt of the Dow City- Arion High School Alumni Association 530 tickets have already been sold for the 100th Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Banquet reunion being staged Saturday, May 26, 07 in Dow City, Iowa. Pat Garrett the historian for the Dow  City-Arion High School Alumni Association noted the average attendance for the banquet is 300 and 400 is the all-time record set in 2003. 5-21-2007 - HELP IS NEEDED FOR THE 100TH ALUMNI CELEBRATION

4 Day Celebration of 100th Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Provies Many Volunteer Opportunities"-The Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Association is seeking volunteers for a variety of opportunities as listed. All effort given to assist would be greatly appreciated.

• Wednesday, May 23rd – 2:00 p.m. – Meet at Cheer’s to start painting the town windows like we used to do before Homecoming. This will be more of a congratulatory theme.
• Wednesday, May 23rd – 6:30 p.m. – Meet at Cheer’s to go out to Joe Gorden’s and load all the wood that he will have ready for us into the town dump truck. We will leave it in the truck until Friday afternoon when we figure out where to dump it behind the bus barn.
• Thursday, May 24th – 2:00 p.m. – Meet at the Community Building to decorate and afterwards display memorabilia in the library at the school for Saturday evening.
• Thursday, May 24th – 6:30 p.m. – Meet at Cheer’s to help set up the big tent for the dance on Friday night and to have up for events for the rest of the weekend. Also will need help to set up bleachers behind the bus barn. Roger Waderich will be coming down to help move the bleachers from the softball field to the bus barn and will need help with loading and unloading them.
• Friday, May 25th – Approximately 2:00 p.m. – Need help at the school with either setting up for the banquet (talk to Connie Garrett) or behind the bus barn to help set up for the bonfire and pep rally.
• Friday, May 25th – 6:00 p.m. – Need the cheerleaders who are participating in the pep rally to meet at the community room at the school (signs will be posted), get signed up and practice for a couple of really, really simple cheers to do during the pep rally. Might need a couple other people besides the committee to help sign them up as most of the committee are cheerleaders too.
• Friday, May 25th – Approximately 8:00-8:30 p.m. Need help to clean up the area around the pep rally site after it is over (pick up papers, etc. and help the vendors clean up) so that we can all enjoy the dance that evening.
• Friday, May 25th – Approximately 9:00 p.m. on – Need help off and on to clean tables during the dance at the Community Club and especially after the dance to get ready for the next day.
• Saturday, May 26th – Approximately 8:00 a.m. -- Need help to get ready for the parade. Ask Ace or Marilyn where help is needed and pitch in to make this a smooth operation.
• Monday, May 28th – 2:00 p.m. – All town cleanup. This includes finishing behind the bus barn, taking down the tent and putting it away, cleaning up the community building if needed, cleaning the windows that were decorated and anything else left over from the celebration.

Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Association Celebrates Their 100th Alumni Banquet With a 4-Day Celebration, Friday, May 25--Monday, May 28, 2007

In honor of the 100th Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Banquet, the Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Association in conjunction with the American Legion, Boyer Valley Optimist Club, Dow City Community Club, Dow City-Arion Fire Department, local churches and residents are staging an incredible 4-day celebration. All-SCHOOL PEP RALLY & BON FIRE 7:00 p.m. Held behind the former Dow City-Arion school bus barn---led by Jack Ahart--shuttle rides available---food on sale served on site by Dow City-Arion Fire Department---free---open to the public.

All-SCHOOL DANCE after the pep rally until 12:00 p.m. Held under the big tent on Main Street--music by In KaHoots---free---open to the public.

DC-A H.S. ALUMNI ASSOCATION SELECTS GREYHOUND AWARD RECIPIENT
Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Association to Honor Pat Garrett

Dow City, Iowa, May 5, 2007 - The Dow City-Arion High School Alumni Association announced that it has selected Pat Garrett as the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Greyhound Award for her outstanding contributions to the DC-A Alumni Association, school and community. The Association will present Pat the award at its upcoming 100th Annual DC-A High School Alumni Banquet.

Garrett, a graduate of Dow City High School’s class of 1950, has been a major contributor to the DC-A High School Alumni Association for nearly 40 years. She has been a driving force in many facets of the alumni association, such as overseeing the annual DC-A High School Alumni Banquet and maintaining the alumni directory, archives and records.

“Pat’s enthusiasm for and dedication to the Alumni Association and the entire Dow City-Arion alumni family is an inspiration,” said alumni association member Jeri (Nelson) Vogt. “For many years she has worked tirelessly to guide this organization and preserve, with integrity, the memory of the generations who have called DC-A High School home. She is our number one booster, and it’s fitting that we honor her with the Greyhound Award.”

Garrett has also been very active in the community and held many key positions, including president of the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She is the wife of Don Garrett and the mother of four DC-A High School graduates -- Kathy (Class of ‘69), Gene (Class of ‘71), Kevin (Class of ‘73), and Connie (Class of ‘80).

The Greyhound Award is presented each year to a recipient who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the Dow City-Arion School, the Alumni Association and the community. Previous recipients of this prestigious award have included: in 2003, James Kloewer, Melvin ‘Crip’ Miller, and Vernon Shotwell; in 2004, Albert Ordal; in 2005, Helen Turner Hartwig; and in 2006 Clarice Rule.

The annual Alumni Banquet will be held May 26th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Boyer Valley School (former DC-A School) Gymnasium, Dow City, Iowa. Dow City-Arion High School’s Class of 1972 Honors There Kindergarten Teacher Lorraine (Carrothers) Riley - Dow City, Iowa, May 15, 07

Lorraine (Carrothers) Riley the former graduate from Manilla High School’s Class of 1956 and later Midwestern College in Denison, IA began her career in education in the Fall of 1959 as the kindergarten teacher on the faculty staff of the Dow City-Arion Community School. The majority of students from that kindergarten class went on to graduate from DC-A H.S. in 1972 and will have Lorraine and her husband Jimmie as honored guests at their 35th High School Class Reunion celebrated in Dow City on Sunday, May 27, 07. Lorraine continued as the kindergarten teacher at DC-A Community School thru the Spring semester of 1961 and went on to have a long and rewarding career in education. The last 4 years she performed a variety of teaching assignments such as special education, learning disabled, behavior disorder and educationally mentally handicapped.
