ALUMNI ASSOCATION SELECTS GREYHOUND AWARD RECIPIENT Garrett, a graduate of Dow City High School’s class of 1950, has been a major contributor to the DC-A High School Alumni Association for nearly 40 years. She has been a driving force in many facets of the alumni association, such as overseeing the annual DC-A High School Alumni Banquet and maintaining the alumni directory, archives and records. “Pat’s enthusiasm for and dedication to the Alumni Association and the entire Dow City-Arion alumni family is an inspiration,” said alumni association member Jeri (Nelson) Vogt. “For many years she has worked tirelessly to guide this organization and preserve, with integrity, the memory of the generations who have called DC-A High School home. She is our number one booster, and it’s fitting that we honor her with the Greyhound Award.” Garrett has also been very active in the community and held many key positions, including president of the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She is the wife of Don Garrett and the mother of four DC-A High School graduates -- Kathy (Class of ‘69), Gene (Class of ‘71), Kevin (Class of ‘73), and Connie (Class of ‘80). The Greyhound Award is presented each year to a recipient who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the Dow City-Arion School, the Alumni Association and the community. Dow City-Arion High School’s Class of 1972 Honors There Kindergarten Teacher Lorraine (Carrothers) Riley - Dow City, Iowa, May 15, 07 Lorraine (Carrothers) Riley the former graduate from Manilla High School’s Class of 1956 and later Midwestern College in Denison, IA began her career in education in the Fall of 1959 as the kindergarten teacher on the faculty staff of the Dow City-Arion Community School. The majority of students from that kindergarten class went on to graduate from DC-A H.S. in 1972 and will have Lorraine and her husband Jimmie as honored guests at their 35th High School Class Reunion celebrated in Dow City on Sunday, May 27, 07. Lorraine continued as the kindergarten teacher at DC-A Community School thru the Spring semester of 1961 and went on to have a long and rewarding career in education. The last 4 years she performed a variety of teaching assignments such as special education, learning disabled, behavior disorder and educationally mentally handicapped.
